Will a series of 50/50 polls give the same result as multiple choice?

So you have several options how do you choose the one to go and see, visit or have. It is a series of 50/50s as you whittle down until you get your choice. It may well be like voting opting for the best of a bad bunch or if going to be entertained who you prefer. Well Harry Hill always used to say lets fight, I am just asking for folks to vote.

First off I am going to find the comedian you would most prefer to go and pay to see.

I have got a list from this ranking site (link) picking the top 32 and then put them against each other. the top 16 will be seeded so they shouldn't meet against each other until the last rounds. (now have tweeked it a little from 17-32 as I wished to include comedians I liked and felt should be in the top 32.

So here is the list (for the first round) >>>LINK TO<<< the page with all the twitter polls on

1 Jimmy Carr v Bill Bailey
2 Sean Lock v James Acaster
3 Frankie Boyle v Ed Byrne
4 Kevin Bridges v Dylan Moran
5 Jon Richardson v Milton Jones
6 Greg Davies v Miles Jupp
7 Romesh Ranganathan v Jack Dee
8 Micky Flanagan v John Bishop
9 Russell Howard v Aisling Bea
10 Dara O Briain v Sarah Millican
11 Peter Kay v Lee Evans
12 Lee Mack v Sara Pascoe
13 Rhod Gilbert v Ross Noble
14 Michael McIntyre v Eddie Izzard
15 Jack Whitehall v Stewart Lee
16 Rob Beckett v Dave Gorman

Now by a series of 50/50 polls will we get roughly the same list? Lets find out.

2nd round will be

1 v 16
2 v 15
3 v 14
4 v 13
5 v 12
6 v 11
7 v 10
8 v 9

quarter final

1/16 v 8/9
2/15 v 7/10
3/14 v 6/11
4/13 v 5/12

Semi final

2/15 / 7/10 v 3/14 / 6/11

winners of the semis.

If there is a draw in any of the polls the winner will be the highest ranked comedian.

I don't like don't knowing.

Before I start this blog post I will update you with my lottery status. I can be currently classed as not a winner, I could have said loser, but that seemed a little negative so not a winner seemed more apt.

Anyways, I were thinking of things along the lines of 50/50 it either will or won't happen, and the one thing which really bugs me is the section of an opinion poll which says don't know. It is even more annoying that they get included in the results of the poll.

Now if I needed to know about folks who may change their minds, then yes! It is useful. But far to often it is a get out.

Why not ask? Do you want to tell me who you will be voting for? Which gives you a simple yes or no. Maybe then follow up with. Are you just telling me what you want to hear?

But don't know. Does a person really not know whom they are going to vote for? Or the likely hood of them doing so?

Which also fits nicely into multiple choices. Is there such a thing?

Well yes you are given a list to choose from, so like with voting you will have the choice of candidate 1,2,3,4&5. But what are you really doing? You go down the list and go yes/no. So for instance you may not like candidates 1 or 2 so they are noes. you then look at 3, 4 & 5 and decide as you prefer 3 to 5 but also like 4 you discount 5. as you have gone 50/50 between them 2 and then you choose between 3 or 4.

Life is broken down into smaller choices, so things are all 50/50 it just depends on the order they are taken upon the eventual choice taken.

So never say I don't know when answering a poll. I may not know how to create wine from water, but that is a yes or a no. So yes! You could argue that a person is saying they either do or do not know who they are voting for, but polling companies use of giving it a third way is the bit which annoys me. There is not a third way. It will or will not happen, or I do or do not know.

Just keep them to one side, and please never try to think what someone is thinking. I have tried that many a times with our lass and miserably failed. So do not try to extrapolate how you think someone will vote by how others have in the past.

Ramble over.

Today's 50/50 poll

Something will or won't happen.

It has been 11 days since I have last made my confessional, Nope, this is not the right place for that. But it has been 11 days. 11 days mulling things over, searching through my own beliefs. During that period I have worked, slept and been to college. For every positive there seems to be a negative. So kind of reinforcing my thoughts of for every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction 9 I know not my own original thought, famous bloke under the tree and all that.).

So, today I bought a lottery ticket, I am not a greedy person, at around 20 grand a year with all bills paid and a life expectancy of another 50 years it would mean 1 million plus another for inflation (being generous with that inflation) me and the good lady would be set up.

Will it happen? Well odds are, or were with 49 balls 14 million to 1 that has risen with 58 balls. But under my philosophy it either will or won't happen. Which is true you can't deny it. Tomorrow morning I will either have a winning lottery ticket or I won't.

I know people say in life "That you can not make things so simplistic"

But why make things complicated? Why dwell on the impossible? Why remind yourself and then compound with probability how something has very little chance of happening?

Now I can't change my life in anticipation of a lottery win, or hold off other things thinking it maybe me who wins. But I do believe that you draw some things towards you by positivity, the same way you can draw negativity towards you, when you are under the belief of "I can't do this" "Things will get worse" Have that mindset and to be honest you are tipping the scales towards the bad, as things either will or won't happen and if you can't see the good things happening then only the bad things will.

Anyways, I have a lottery ticket and who knows tomorrow I may or may not be a winner.

What am I?

I looked and scoured and wondered and as I wondered as to what am I? Obviously some one would shout out, human! They may be sarcastic and say a poor writer.... But ultimately how do I follow my life, I had thought of putting up this blog as the fatalists guide to life. But on looking at things deeper a fatalists believes that no matter what happens an event is going to happen.

As an example, if they were ill it could be said "why call for a doctor?" Due to the fact that if they were to die it is predetermined anyway and thus the doctor couldn't save them. Or if they were to survive then they didn't need the doctor as they were going to get better anyway.

You could say that the above is a fatal fatalistic stance.

Now to me an event will happen or it won't. It really narrows down the odds in my world, to me there isn't a 14 million to one chance of winning the lottery it is 50/50 it will or it won't happen.

It also narrows down all other options as well, you may well have something with multiple choices, but that that also can be narrowed down to 50/50 because you will either get the right choice for you or not.

I may be over simplifying life, but why over complicate it?

This will be my place to share my thoughts...
